What is the prebirth service? The prebirth service is a partnership between Grand River Hospital and the Region of Waterloo Public Health Department. It is available to prepare you and your family for a healthy pregnancy, the birth of your baby and your postpartum experience. If this is your first baby, you will also have the opportunity to meet with a public health nurse.
Do I have to attend the prebirth service? Yes, even if this isn’t your first pregnancy. You will be pre-registered with the childbirth program and the information you provide will become a part of your hospital record. This helps us to provide the best care possible.
When do I need to book an appointment? It’s best to book your appointment between 14 and 16 weeks of pregnancy and preferably no later than 32 weeks. Please call 519-749-4300, ext. 2792 to book an appointment as early as possible.
How do I book my appointment? To book an appointment, call 519-749-4300, ext. 2792.
Do I need to do anything special on the day of my visit? If you have children, we recommend that you make other care arrangements on the day of your appointment.
Please go to the childbirth registration desk on the fourth floor, D-Wing at GRH’s KW Site (835 King Street West in Kitchener). If you are more than 15 minutes late, your appointment may be rescheduled.
What will happen at my appointment? Please expect to be at the hospital for about one hour. You will need to complete and bring with you the forms below. When you arrive, we will register you with the hospital. We'll show you a video that explains the services we offer, and what to expect during your hospital stay. If this is your first baby, you will then meet with a public health nurse.
