Surgical suite (OR) renovations

The surgical suite renovations at Grand River Hospital’s KW Site include a wide range of upgrades.

Inside an operating room, under constructionAll 10 operating rooms received upgrades including improved lighting, better airflow, and electronic push button doors.

A family/waiting lounge and a quiet room were built adjacent to the surgical suites.

Infrastructure changes were made so that high-tech diagnostic and surgical equipment can be integrated into the hospital’s data and imaging network, and be controlled through a nurse console right in the OR. The development of an integrated operating room is essential for efficient and smoothly run surgeries.

The infrastructure changes in the operating rooms will increase our ability to support current and future technologies, including remote tele-mentoring. As well, improved facilities and equipment will help attract additional health care professionals to Grand River Hospital, further enhancing the services we provide.

An expanded pathology satellite in the OR will support quick response with increased surgical activity, including surgical oncology. The changes also support increased technology in surgical suites including picture archive communications system (PACS), robotic surgery and tele-pathology
