Visiting in the neonatal intensive care unit
The NICU is designed to be a quiet environment for your baby to rest and grow. Therefore the following visiting hours have been put in place:
- Parents, designated support persons or grandparents can spend time with their baby at any time except during shift change (6:50 to 7:30 am and pm).
- Other visitors may visit from 4:30 to 8:30 pm excluding shift change as mentioned above. One parent must accompany every visitor.
- One parent and one visitor only may be at the bedside at any given time. However, to support family-centered care, entire families, both parents and siblings of the baby, may visit briefly at the baby’s bedside. Please make arrangements with your baby’s nurse.
- Brothers and sisters of your baby are the only children allowed in the nursery. Siblings must be supervised at all times. All other visitors must be over the age of 14 years.
Visitors must sign their name in the NICU visitor sign-in book located at the main desk just inside the sliding glass doors.
There may be times when due to the activity in the unit it's necessary to limit visiting to parents of the baby only. You will be notified if this situation should happen.
