During your stay in the emergency department we limit your visitor to one person at a time.
This will help to:
- Limit the spread of illness to other patients;
- Ensure that your medical needs are met in a timely manner; and
- Keep your medical care information as confidential as possible
When a child is a patient, we welcome and encourage both parents to stay with their child. In the case of siblings, we ask parents to make alternate child care arrangements. Given that this isn't always possible, we'll make every effort to accommodate your needs during your stay with us.
Sometimes, emergency staff may need to further limit visitors. We ask that relatives and friends stay in the emergency department waiting area unless their presence is absolutely necessary for your care. We'll update your friends and family as much as possible. The staff may also adjust your number of visitors depending on the severity of situation occurring to best suit the needs of patient’s family.
A reminder that hand washing is the best way to decrease the spread of infection. Please wash your hands frequently. If you want to visit someone in the hospital and have symptoms of a cold, influenza or a stomach ailment, we ask you to not visit nor accompany anyone.
All visitors should wash their hands before and after their visit to the hospital. Hand washing stations and alcohol wipes are readily available in the emergency department. |
