Becoming a volunteer

Volunteer resources functions much like a human resources department in its recruitment processes. Potential volunteers are required to register and attend volunteer information sessions and interview with the coordinator of volunteer resources.

Volunteers must be a minimum of 16 years old and commit for six consecutive months, with the exception of our summer student program.

Prior to being placed at Grand River Hospital, potential volunteers must complete a mandatory health requirement (two-step Tuberculosis test and immunizations), provide a clear police records check and two professional references. The process takes four to six weeks.

After completing the volunteer process, training for your volunteer placement will involve complete service-specific training with an experienced volunteer or designated staff person. This includes a tour of key areas, introduction to staff and a thorough review of your service description and duties.

For more information, please call volunteer resources at 749-4300 ext. 2613.
