Grand River Hospital provides integrated stroke care at the region’s district stroke centre serving Waterloo and Wellington communities. Located at the KW Site, 835 King Street West in Kitchener, the clinic is housed in the hospital’s Kaufman building (off Green St).
We are one of 17 district stroke centres and 11 regional stroke centres in Ontario that make up the Ontario Stroke System. Our goal is to improve access to prevention and care in order to reduce stroke incidence, mortality and disability. We are different from other care facilities because we are able to provide the powerful clot-busting drug t-Pa for acute ischemic strokes.
We are committed to improving “organized” stroke care, providing care and education based on best practices and evidence and working with other health care partners. We also monitor and evaluate stroke care and incidence in our region.
