Grand River Hospital (GRH) is pleased to welcome visitors to our sites. Support from family and friends is critical in the care and recovery of our patients.
As with any health facility, we have procedures in place to protect the health and safety of the people we care for, their friends and family, as well as our staff.
Please help us by making sure you follow all the rules related to visiting.
Here are some key points to keep in mind before visiting:
Help us prevent infections: simple steps such as regular hand-washing, coughing or sneezing into your elbow, and avoiding visits if you have a cold or stomach virus help to protect our patients. For more, please visit our page on keeping our hospital safe: preventing infections
Visiting hours:
- Freeport Site: visiting hours are from 11:00am to 8:30pm. For after-hours access to the hospital, an entry telephone is located outside the main entrance. If visitors are interested in bringing pets to the Freeport Site, please speak with recreation therapy at 519-749-4300 ext 7440 for more information prior to visiting.
- KW Site: visitors are limited to no more than two people at a bedside at one time. General visiting hours are from 1:30pm to 8:30pm every day; however, some programs have special visiting hours.
Before you visit, please call 519-749-4211. We can confirm that the patient is here and advise you whether there are restrictions in place that may affect your visit.
When you shouldn’t visit:
There are times when you should delay a visit to the hospital to protect your own health and safety and that of our patients and staff.
Please do not visit if you feel unwell with symptoms of a cold, stomach virus or other contagious disease. Go home, take care of yourself and come back after you’ve been symptom free for at least two days.
For information on situations and alerts that may affect a potential visit, please go to our services disruptions and alerts.
Services and parking: both our Freeport and KW Sites offer a range of food and gift services. To find out more about these services as well as parking at each site, please click on the following:
Special notes on gifts: Low-scent flowers are preferred, but please check before bringing flowers as some areas do not allow live plants or flowers. Latex (rubber) balloons are not permitted due to allergy reasons, although we welcome foil and Mylar balloons.
Tobacco-free buildings and grounds: as of April 2nd 2013, GRH's buildings and grounds are now tobacco free. We want to promote healthy living, and minimize our community's exposure to the harmful effects of second hand smoke. Please help us by not smoking anywhere on hospital property.
For advice to quit smoking, please:
1) Speak with your care provider if you're a patient;
2) Visit our Health Care Centre Pharmacy at the KW Site if you're a family member or friend of a patient;
