Information for visitors

We're pleased to welcome visitors to our sites. Support from family and friends is critical in the care and recovery of our patients.  As with any health facility, we have procedures in place to protect the health and safety of the people we care for, their friends and family, as well as our staff.  Please help us by making sure you follow all the rules related to visiting.
Visiting guidelines:

Controlling the spread of infection:  wash your hands regularly, cough or sneeze into your elbow, and avoid visiting if you are sick to protect our patients. For more information, please visit our page on keeping our hospital safe: preventing infections.

Gifts: low-scent flowers are preferred, but please check before bringing flowers as some areas do not allow live plants or flowers. Latex (rubber) balloons are not permitted due to allergy reasons, although we welcome foil and Mylar balloons.
GRH is a tobacco-free hospital:  GRH's buildings and grounds are tobacco-free. We want to promote healthy living, and minimize our community's exposure to the harmful effects of second hand smoke. Please help us by not smoking anywhere on hospital property. Click here to access our tobacco-free hospital policy.
For advice to quit smoking, please:
1) Speak with your care provider if you're a patient;
2) Visit our Health Care Centre Pharmacy at the KW Site if you're a family member or friend of a patient;
3) Call the Smokers' Helpline at 1-877-513-1333 or visit the Smokers' Helpline website.
For the childbirth program:  Visiting hours are from 12 pm to 2 pm and 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm daily.  The hospital's childbirth program also has some specific rules that help keep our patients safe.
  • The only children allowed to visit are siblings of the baby.  This helps us to limit the spread of germs and infection for all patients on the unit.
  • Rest time for moms is from 2 pm to 4:30 pm every day.  Visitors may be asked to come back after rest time.
  • While moms are in the triage unit on the childbirth floor, we can only accommodate one visitor at a time due to space.
