Preparing for a lab appointment

At Grand River Regional Cancer Centre Oncology Laboratory

Grand River Regional Cancer Centre has a small laboratory room. It is found on the 4th floor of the cancer centre.

If you are having your labwork done at Grand River Regional Cancer Centre your lab requisition (the order your cancer doctor sends to tell the lab team what to test for) will be sent directly to them.

Your cancer doctor or nurse will specifically tell you if you need to fast, or prepare in other ways for your lab test.

At an outside laboratory (e.g. Lifelabs or other)

If you are having your lab work (blood sample) drawn from an outside facility you should:

  • Bring your lab requisition form from your family doctor or cancer doctor.
  • Valid Ontario Health Card

Please note that most tests will be covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) but not all. The laboratory will let you know if you need to pay a fee for a test.

Lifelabs has specific directions to follow for certain tests:
