Advancing health care education at GRH takes the hard work and dedication of many.

One of those people is Hannah Marcus, who has won GRH’s September award of excellence for her work with the hospital’s dietetic internship program.

Hannah is a registered dietitian. She joined GRH in 2000. She coordinates GRH’s post graduate dietetic internship programs, which is one of only 14 in Canada. Five interns take part in a 44 week program to gain hands-on experience to become entry level dietitians.

Hannah’s work includes organizing the review of a hundred applications a year, setting up interviews, and organizing clinical rotations as well the interns’ graduation ceremony.

Hannah’s nominator recognized her for the following:

Compassion: Hannah is responsible for a group of high functioning, inquiring minds; young students who look to her for leadership, knowledge, mentoring, guidance and “mothering”.  She guides them through a year of new challenges, a demanding schedule and the highest of expectations and manages their ups and downs, both personal and professional, with compassion throughout.

Collaboration: Hannah works with all levels of the organization along with external partners, including universities and the professional college to ensure a successful and meaningful experience for her interns. She engages the necessary stakeholders and does so in an organized, professional manner. She truly demonstrates the best of what collaboration means.

Positive attitude: Hannah is an amazing role model for her students and demonstrates every day what it means to be a professional, always with a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone.

Professionalism: Hannah takes her role as mentor and role model to her students very seriously.  She manages to find just the right balance of” friendly” while still maintaining her authority with her students who very clearly respect her.

Respect: Hannah treats everyone with the same level of respect, regardless of role.  She recognizes that each employee provides value to the organization and treats them accordingly.  She regularly goes out of her way to acknowledge those who have helped her accomplish her goals and provides feedback to their managers.

Congratulations Hannah and thank you for helping send dietetic interns on a rich and rewarding experience across GRH’s diverse clinical programs and services.
