Scenes from the Class of 1968 tour...

Stories and memories filled the halls as the KW Hospital School of Nursing’s class of 1968 returned for a tour of Grand River Hospital’s KW Campus.

The 21 returning graduates spent much of their time in the Kaufman building. It was their residence while they took part in three years of nursing education.

GRH vice president of clinical services and chief nursing executive Judy Linton greeted the tour group. She provided each member a rose as part of their welcome.

In addition to the Kaufman building, the nurses toured the Grand River Regional Cancer and parts of the KW Campus main hospital building.

“The old nurses’ residence brings back memories of entering it as nervous, naïve girls and leaving three years later as confident, competent nurses,” said Elaine Walker of the graduates.

“KW graduate nurses had a reputation as being excellent at their job, and it was easy to find work as new graduates. Many stayed in the area, but others have worked in other parts of Canada and the USA; many in leadership roles.”

The tour wrapped up with the nurses making a donation to Grand River Hospital Foundation’s campaign to replace GRH’s magnetic resonance imaging scanner. GRH Foundation president and CEO Tracey Bailey thanked the group for their donation, and their years of service in health care.

It was a pleasure welcoming back the Class of 1968, and we thank them for including GRH in their reunion celebrations!
