March is National Social Work Month, and GRH is pleased to celebrate this diverse group of professionals making a difference in the lives of patients and families.

GRH is privileged to have nearly 60 social workers throughout the hospital. They make a difference in:

  • Leading groups in our wide-ranging mental health and addictions program;
  • Supporting patients and families dealing with long-term illnesses who may have financial needs or require links with community programs;
  • Bereavement counseling for families who may have lost a loved one; and
  • One-on-one support for patients facing difficulties.

Many of GRH’s social workers have won the hospital’s employee award of excellence, recognizing their great care and support.

GRH is also pleased to host many social work students every year in partnership with Wilfrid Laurier University.

We’ll profile some of our social workers in our stories section and why they enjoy making a difference for GRH patients and families.

If you need the support of a social worker, please ask any care provider and they’ll connect you. Social work services are available without a referral.
