Patients may have two care partners/visitors at a time, with exceptions for siblings (including step-siblings) under 12. There are some specific visitor restrictions in certain areas due to space limitations:

  • Only one care partner may accompany the patient in obstetrical triage
  • In NICU, inpatient children’s and childbirth (after the baby is born), only one care partner may stay overnight

Visiting hours are 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. every day. Exceptions are made for care partners (i.e. those supporting labouring patients, or staying with a child).

Children may visit during visiting hours. This applies only to siblings of the newborn or paediatric patient. Visiting siblings must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Please bring your own entertainment/comfort items for visiting siblings.

During outbreaks, visiting may be temporarily suspended – you can consult with the care team to learn more.

Before your visit:

It’s critically important that we do not expose vulnerable babies and children to infection. If you have respiratory or gastrointestinal symptoms such as cough, fever, sore throat, runny nose, vomiting, diarrhea, or conjunctivitis (pink eye), please do not visit. Visitors and care partners (including parents/primary caregivers) with COVID-19 must wait ten days after their first symptoms before they will be allowed to visit. Additionally, please do not visit if you’ve been exposed to a contagious illness like chicken pox within the past two weeks. Please discuss with the patient’s care team in the event of exceptional circumstances.

Children’s Outpatient Clinic: Please call the clinic before your appointment if the patient or a member of their household is feeling unwell, has been exposed to someone with COVID-19, or has tested positive for COVID-19. The staff will provide direction including rescheduling your appointment if safe to do so.

During your visit:

Follow instructions from the care team about appropriate personal protective equipment, sanitizing your hands. Cell phones must also be sanitized when entering NICU. Wipes and sanitizer are available for this purpose.

Please do not eat or drink in the patient room. Exceptions may be made for care partners staying with the patient for extended hours/overnight.

NICU: Care partners may bring water - all other food and drink is not permitted in the NICU.

As a reminder, smoking is not permitted on hospital property.
