Our interventional radiology (IR) suite operates in the medical imaging department on the second floor of the hospital’s KW Campus at 835 King Street West in Kitchener.

The IR suite acts as a support system to several programs within Grand River Hospital as well as other hospitals and facilities within the community.

For example:

  • The interventional suite supports the dialysis program with the insertion of dialysis catheters and subsequent maintenance. Grafts and fistulas that are surgically placed can be evaluated through angiograms and malfunctions corrected by procedures such as angioplasty;
  • Oncology referrals may include central line placements and palliative care procedures; and
  • Vascular studies are performed to assess circulation problems or serve as a work-up pre-operatively.

All procedures require complete medical histories and informed consents. Contrast media injections may be required.

GRH has also introduced radio frequency ablation and trans-arterial chemoembolization procedures for patients with liver lesions. Our IR suite will play a major role in the provision of these procedures. Find out more about how these procedures will benefit Waterloo Region patients.
