Care providers at Waterloo Regional Health Network’s emergency department have a new harm reduction tool to help save the lives of people at risk of an opioid overdose.

The number of people newly diagnosed with cancer in Ontario has increased over the last two decades and will continue to rise, largely due to an aging population. Certain cancers can be prevented or detected earlier by regular screening, but according to a new report released today by Cancer Care Ontario, many eligible Ontarians aren’t up to date with their screening tests.

At the tender age of four, Evan Conway knows he wants to be a firefighter. Evan has shown the bravery needed for firefighting through a more than two year journey with leukemia. He was happy to celebrate as the Kitchener Fire Department brought a truck to WRHN’s KW Campus to mark his final treatment for the disease.

Every year, patients at WRHN receive more than 575,000 infusions of intravenous medication. The team responsible for maintaining medication safety through infusion pumps has won WRHN’s latest award of excellence for their efforts.
